I was just looking through Jeff Shiu’s website at stuff that I can ill afford. Towards the end of the gallery’s, there was a set of 4 (120mm), figures. Max Wunsche & crew! To fit in a Kublewagen. It was posted as OOP. Did this set ever actually run, and if so for how long.

It is OOP it ran for a couple of months I believe, Jeff did mention in his recent post of the Submariners on the Bridge vignette that it was down to the last few. I have the submariners and they are stunning, if you were lucky enough to obtain the Max Wunsche crew I am sure you already own a Kubelwagen for them to ride in, that will make for a stunning diorama.

A couple of months! That’s nonsensical. I guess it’ll be the same with these ‘Submariners ‘.

I’ll never understand the logic behind these short run’s of figures. Granted poor sales is the biggest indicator of the lifespan of any figure, but surely give the buggers a chance.

I think Jeff is doing short runs because of recasting, he posts his runs on here and you express an interest then he gives you his PayPal address so you can buy his figures. His customer service is very good, he informed me straight away that he was posting my figures and also emailed me again when I told him I'd received them. Don't quote me about the couple of months, from memory he told me the submariners was a limited run and to make an order as soon as possible, it was all on here a month or two back. I've just checked his previous posts and he announced the kubelwagen crew in June of this year. Ian

He announced them in June! A mere 5 months ago, and they are OOP?

If that's the case he could be shooting himself in the foot.

All a recaster has to do is get hold of one and he can then just keep cranking them out ad infinitum. Yon pirate's not bothered whether it's a "short run" or not, in fact he's probably quite happy to keep taking orders from guys who might otherwise have bought an original from Jeff had it still been in production. There are recasters who seem to specialise in just knocking out OOP stuff.

I’m familiar with how to buy from him. However I can’t see the argument or correlation, with recasting as a reason for short runs! If everyone did that we’d be in deep sh*t. We would have cyber beatings/lynchings, just to get a figure.

Steve could be right, a recaster just has to get one set, and off he goes casting away.(saying that the recaster might put the casting blocks in a better place) lol. But that’s another story.
