Have just finished my 5th figure and have taken some very quick picies of it.

It's a Bonaparte Pte, Grenadier Com, 1st Regt. of Foot Guards c1751 100mm

As before your comments would be welcome.

Had problems with shading white, I don't think grey, however light is the way to go, I'm using Andrea Miniatures acrylics.

Still along way to go with getting the face right, but I'm getting there.

Yep, whites are tough. Take a look thru Joe Hudsons vbench. He is the master of acrylic whites, IMO. Lotsa good mixes there for you.

I think your figure is very good. The head gear is nicely done!

Tim, Nice job on the figure. it's one of the best 18th figures around IMHO. I only wish I had picked it up when Fort Duquesne had it in resin, the casting was perfect.~Gary

Nice job Tim, you do not want to see my fifth figure

Greys (as in black + white) often don't look right because they're too blueish. To counteract this usually you'd just add in some brown to each mix.

When depicting historical whites it's often a good idea to consider the fabric: 'white' woollen garments for example might be more like a natural-wool colour (sort of beige) than a white per se, which can be used to provide a little variety on a single figure if he's also wearing linen or cotton, or has white piping/lacing, that could be depicted as truly white.

:)

Thanks everybody for your opinions and tips I'll certainly take them on board!

Joe Hudson's work is certainly impressive and something for me to aspire to.

Yes this is a great 18th Century figure, originally a David Grieve mould, who from the short time that I've been doing figures seems to be highly regarded, although the new "Bonaparte" casting doesn't seem to be as sharp as the Trooper, 10th Hussar, Waterloo c1815, which is an original Grieve.

Thanks for the tip. The different fabric is a great idea and is no doubt more accurate and a great way to add some contrast and interest.

That's a nicely done figure Tim. It's only your fifth work, but I can see lots of good points there. Neat painting and detail. The rest will come with practice and more painting.

Great painting Tim............you might want to reduce the photo size for two reasons.
1.the large size like you are posting will eat up your photo storage bandwith very quickly
2. Alot of people are on dial-up internet service and the super large pics are impossible to download.
