Greetings all.
Allow me to introduce myself. I have been watching this forum for about a year ,in total awe of everyone's talents.
I am primarily a sculptor, and although I can paint it is not my passion and I will certainly not be posting any work up here!
I cut my teeth many moons ago on the classic Airfix 54mm Waterloo Guardsman(how many of those did I convert, I wonder?) I was an avid reader of Military Modelling and Airfix magazine, my first ever conversion was one of Roy Dilley's from an Airfix motor racing spectator. As you will by now have realised, I am 'of a certain age'...
Then came Sid Horton's Crimea series in Airfix Mag and I really learned a lot about anatomy and dynamics. Gradually I started making pieces of clothing from plasticene-I remember seeing an amazing plasticene WWI French trench diorama in Seagull Models near the National History Musem-or was it the model shop near the Imperial War Museum? I can't rememember the sculptor's name but he was a true genius.
Then I discovered miliput, and I hated it at first. But once I got used to it WOW! I was by this time making 1-25 scale figures for stage designers(I did my BA(hons) in Stage Design).
Although they were quite crude by today's standards, one of the best compliments I ever got was when an american opera company complained to the designer that they thought they were getting a brand new production, but his photos (of the set model) clearly showed that it had been performed before.....
I have kept my hand in over the years with a few commissions, none of which ever acheived any great status in the scheme of things, but I have tried to keep learning and refining my abilities.I will post some shots eventually,in case they jog anyone's memory....
As with many of us family life and work meant less and less time at the bench, and my time is still limited , but I have spent the last 8 months working in this pilot figure at 1-32 scale.
I would be interested to receive the informed feed-back that is the great thing about this forum.
cheers

Looks very nice, I'm no sculpter but I'm sure theres many on here who can advise you better than me only thing looks a little out to me is maybe the hands are a bit big ?

Hi Merryweather,

Thanks for posting and welcome aboard. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran, theres always room for one more sculptor on the Planet.

Your RAF pilot looks very good. I hope you'll post more pics of your sculpted pieces in due course.

Hi Merryweather
Welcome to planet figure. I guess you know it pretty well if you have been watching for a year but being a member and being able to post threads and join in etc is much better ( even though I only do it occasionally ).
I really like the pilot figure - you obviously have a talent. Have you any plans to cast your work and start selling them commercially? I think this subject could do well.
Cheers Mat

Well, thank you Joe and everyone for the fine welcome!
Helm you are absolutely right, the hand is too big ( doh!)- one of those things you only notice when you take a picture and show to other people.:facepalm:Now I see it ,as it were , through the eyes of others I can see a few other niggles that need to fixed.
Thanks Dan I will use WIP in future .
Thanks for the comments Tony & Mat- the idea of casting and selling was always at the back of my mind, but I have no concrete plans, much less facilities.I guess that was one of the reasons for finally joining- to see if there was any interest, and to see whether I could cut it amongst the giants on here
