I first purchased this excellent 120mm figure nearly 30 years ago (It could actually be 30 years). The figure is based on a drawing by the late great Derbyshire artist Rick Scollins who made brilliant artwork for the Osprey military books. The picture, in turn, was used as a basis for a figure made by the equally great Bill Horan which featured in one edition of the sadly missed Military Modelling Magazine. I believe that the company Kirin then manufactured their version of this figure which quickly became famous.

I have spent many years continually laying paint on my figure as I have never been content with the results. For the last couple of months I have been trying again and I think I have now come close to being more happy with it.

I have featured this figure before on this site and I hope you like the final results now I have repainted it.

The figure has been painted in a combination of acrylic and oil paints. Unfortunately the sword blade has always been slightly bent as it is quite thin resin so I have used tin cut from a cola can to reinforce it and also give it its shine.

I hope my efforts pay tribute to Rick and Bill. I will never be anywhere near as good as them but we can all strive to be better.
Nuff said!

Jazz I have this boy in my stash, purchased when it was first released, I never got around to working on it, I think the Tartan scared me off all those years ago and would you believe it still does hence why the figure is still in his box, lovely to see someone posting the completed figure on PF and you have done a good job on this classic figure.

Terry have you seen this excellent tutorial by Le van Quang, I found it banished many of the qualms I had.

The kit released by Kirin was sculpted by Mike Good. If I recall an old Military Modelling article correctly, the kit breakup was done in a way that all parts could be cast by one-piece molds. I forgot why, but this gave it a very large parts count, making for considerable construction work.

Have been loving this figure for a long time. It’s in my stash and really hope doing it before I retire.

Good that you finished yours. Excellentfigures should not remain in boxes! Liking how you handled the tartan. Not the part I am looking forward to!

Cheers,
Adrian
