I have quite a few unopened rare kits mostly 300 plus unopened monarch and hinchliffe kits 200 plus from the zulu war range, little generals,IR ect,
but the ones i am trying to value are a unopened ray lamb taisho
and 2 caldercraft french napoleonic light larry ambulance sets{keeping field forge set} all these still have shrink wrap on them...i have tried to find info on the caldercraft sets but there is nothing out there on the web does anyone know the value of these?

HI Phil,

You should expect to get £90-£140.....$150-$200- for the Taisho in pristine condition.

My advice would be wait until the autumn and stick it on Ebay, unless someone reading this makes you an offer....hope this helps...........Keith

Thanks guys for the heads up,Its the caldercraft kits i cant find info on;
2X french napoleonic light larry Ambulance and 1x field forge set.I remember them from years ago but no info even when i google.
How i wish it were a mounted taisho!!

Neither of these sets crops up very often on Ebay. I think the last time I saw the ambulance set it sold for around £65 but I really don't know what condition that was in.
With regard to the Samurai it would be as well to check if this is the original Hinchliffe kit or the re-engineered kit put out under the Caldercraft label back in 1978. There would be a Caldercraft sticker on the otherwise identical box and the components would be shrink-wrapped onto red Caldercraft cards within the box.
The kit was re-engineered to make it easier to assemble but there was some impact on the detail & I have seen examples where the lace detail on the helmet turnbacks is completely lost. In fact when I painted one of these kits for Frank Hinchliffe in the early 1980's I used the helmet from the mounted kit. BTW the mounted kit was completely sculpted afresh by Paul Knight and used no components from the Ray Lamb kit.
In view of the high prices on Ebay for this kit I'm surprised there hasn't been some effort made to reintroduce the kit. I assume Skytrex still have the moulds although as they are very much into model railway(railroad) items these days, perhaps not.

One part is shrink wrapped to caldercraft card the arrows and arm etc,but identical parts in small zip bag and caldercraft instruction sheet,My friend who gave me this had another one,so i wonder if he is missing parts..anyway they are very crisp parts.
The napoleonic sets are all shrink wrapped to a couple of cards..maybe i need to put one on ebay at a low starting bid and see response.
I'm also suprised the taisho was never re introduced given the popularity.
Back in west midlands growing up i painted one and also a 16th century knight which i think was hinchcliffe that was also a beautiful impressive figure.

I have two mounted Taisho and one standing version in my grey army. I have painted a standing version of the Caldercraft.

Actually I prefer the Caldercraft kit than the original Hinchliffe kit. The two arms and legs section for the original Hinchliffe kit are casted in two halves. The Caldercraft kit are casted as single solid pieces.

For the standing version between $120 to $250. For the mounted one - price unknown.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the info on the Mounted Taisho, I was told that they had just prised the legs apart to get the figure seated on the horse which put me off slightly. Glad to hear that it was completely re-engineered. Might tempt me to break it out of the shrink wrapping-it is a magnificent model of you enjoy painting in the larger scales.
