Found this recently when getting ready for my cuirassier
Superb, I think Russian made but it certainly captures the day.
I believe there are many parts to this film on YouTube, it really is worth looking

Cheers Kev, I actually think it is a Napoleonic 'Private Ryan' :)
The film is superb and dare I say it better than Waterloo.
If you know the Keith Rocco painting this becomes even more poignant, thank the world for YouTube.
I sculpt every night going through the world web library.
The trumpeter at the start of this is just ready to sound :) nice piece :)

Hi Gra ,

Indeed a napoleonic "Private Ryan" ....Waterloo was a good film

Keith Rocco ..brilliant artist and paintings ...love the colourful uniforms of the trumpeters especially when they were in Imperial lace .

Hi Kev, yes I have the book.
When I visited Alan and Marion they had a napoleonic book and some prints by Keith.
Cut a long story short I got in touch with Keith and he was a gentleman, the book had gone out of production but Cath has still given me permission for a signed print. The problem is there are so many to choose from :)
Keith has brought a nice Italian campaign book out, hardbound as the napoleonic I am after.
I have the civil war one equivalent of what we have above, that is really good also
Cheers mate

Hi Graham,

I think the book on the Italian Campaign with the Rocco paintings you are referring to is one of a series from the US-I think this is number 5 Caliver books were advertising it a while ago. I looked at bringing it in from the US but it was around £150.00. These tend to sell out quickly and shoot up to about £400 in the blink of an eye.

Colonel Chabert is a very cool film, but don't get the impression that it is laced with battle scenes. As far as I recall the Eylau charge is the only one and it is key to the story. But the film is almost as good as The Duelists in bringing across the feel of Napoleonic France. Good story and good acting from Depardieu and others. I have a VHS of it somewhere in the electronic archives. Need to dig it out.

Hi Keith, the book I wanted was napoleonic uniforms by a Keith, well gone now but I keep my eye out.
The Italian campaign is a different book, still great but after seeing Alan and Marion's I set my heart on the napoleonic, think it will cost me a few hundred but I will grab one if I ever get the chance :)

This looks an interesting movie ,A little swat up on heavy cavalry tactics is in order though :) and a read of David Chandlers book on the campaigns of Napoleon would make all these films more accurate ,but probably rather dull :D
Heave cavalry charged at the trot or canter boot to boot, idea being shear weight and impact in mass would ride everything down especially against infantry , but most movies show cavalry charges in the American way as it looks better " every which way but loose " light cavalry were more open order as they were usually used for mopping up retreating troops .
the charge off the light Brigade movie gets it just about right

Eylau cavalry charge was particularly dense due to the weather
