The horse of the ADC is amazing one, one of the best in 54mm, in other hand the one in 90mm is very strange, I found disproportional length, and he has no chest, is like the neck is attached directly to the legs...Bad sculpture IMO

I didn't like to mention it but often sculptors do " just a horse".

There are many types of horse and sometimes, but not always they can be matched with the figures. For example Crimean War Horses I'd expect to be a bit manky looking and from photographs they don't always look clipped so they are shaggy. Fine, small Arab breeds on middle eastern figures and perhaps some nice rounded Spanish/Lusitano types on Austrian or Spanish Hussars.

But it doesn't bother me that much. Just a thought.

Like the German para. However I would have preferred it a bit smaller (1/16).

The hussar of the 10th represented in background of GROS's picture is the aid-de - camp of Lasalle (we see the armband sky blue in the left hand). It is about captain Théron, who comes of 10th hussars, and kept it the uniform.
Lasalle took him as aid-de - camp when he passed GdB, and like that often arrives to the generals, he took one aid-de - camp in the regiment the command of which he had just left.
Théron will leave his functions of aid-de - camp of Lasalle one month after the taking of Stettin, appointed major in 5th hussars (of the blow he does not leave Lassalle completely).

The only one illustration of the Captain Theron.

Great trio. Capt. Theron is a must have. John's sculpting and painting are always amazing.

Captain Theron is the best of the bunch for me but retailing at about £75 for a 54mm mounted is a no go for me in comparison to the new metal models mounted pieces at around £55

How I agree with you. Some years ago when a manufacturer tried to make a real looking steppes horse they got slated from some quarters as the horse was too shaggy.

Also the tend towards Arabian horses is fine (i do like them) but the bulky look of the Poste Militär cuirassier horse looks much more the sort of horse heavy cavalry troopers would ride and there is need for more of this rather than "just do a horse" in my humble opinion.

I do like the ADC's horse in this case.

Thanks to Zastrow for the historical references while I'm at it - saved a lot of work for many people.

Cheers

However the new Pegaso 54mm empire personality figures include a wooden base, add £12 for a quality base and your comparison is fairer.

I agree, even considering the inclusion of the wooden base, taking into account also, that the quality of the cast, at least in Lasalle, is not as good as expected, I painted two copies and both had no clean detail in the braids of the left superior part of the dolman, difficult to repair. The horse is better, but need putty in some areas, because the assembly is not as perfect as other kits.
I usually paint Pegaso figures, I like them a lot, but I think they must overcome the quality control.

Quality is a different question. I think MM's casting is up with the standards set by Poste Militaire and Almond all those years ago. With Pegaso I've detected the odd blemish in castings but nothing irrecoverable in my case and still much better than some of the earlier stuff.

Just to clarify I mean the earlier stuff available and not Pegaso but some of the figures available in the 1970s and 1980

Metal Models have it 100% in regards to quality of casting. All details are razor sharp and the large surfaces of the horse and other flat parts are as smooth as you can go with metal and not pitted with a micro texture due to the moulds and metal being poured not operating at the correct temperature and spun at the incorrect speed. I have done and been involved in this production for several years in the past so do have a little knowledge in this field.

Don't get me wrong as I have most of the range of Pegaso figures and bust at all scales as well as most from the early days stuff which was cast very well but seem to drop off in quality as the years went by. I do still purchase their figures but am more selective these days and like to open the boxes at shows to check the quality first.

Just make it all out of resin :p
