Hey all!

A few shots of one of my favourite projects - LaTorre's "Roman Cav. Officer c. 180 AD" a.k.a. "Maximus" a.ka. "Mr. Crowe" - if nothing else, it gave me an excuse to watch that cool opening scene to "Gladiator" about 20 times !

As always, any and all comments greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Nice work, Brian. I particularly like how you've brought the earth tones up onto the figure's legs and cloak.

Brian,

I have this one in my gray army but I think I'll wait a few years til I can do it justice as you did. Great job.

Steve, Mike and Leigh:

Thanks all for the comments - much appreciated !

Mike, get him out of the grey army and give him a go - it's a real joy to paint. There's a real variety of textures from smooth metal on the cuirass and gauntlets to the fur on the wolfskin, plus the challenge of varying the reds on the cloak and clothing. Every figure's a learning experience, and it's great to try to broaden your skills on a really good figure like this one. On this figure I tried a bunch of "new" techniques I'd only read about, and ended up being pleasantly surprised with the outcome (after a couple weeks' worth of small, anal-retentive touch ups!) - all it took was the fortitude to pick up the figure, say, "Oh what the hell!" and start painting. In the end, I consoled myself with the thought that if I wasn't happy with the final result, Raul's still casting more !

Thanks again for the encouragement guys !

Brian
