Remembering those men and women who served their countries in war, and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

I will be at the Toronto cenotaph today and in addition to my Dad's service and general remembrance, I will give thoughts to my two great uncles killed in the Great War. I also always take some time to personally honour the few German citizens who actively resisted Hitler and who for the most part gave up their lives through suicide or execution in squalid conditions after the failure of Stauffenberg's bomb plot.

Had a quiet time thinking of those who didn't get back home today, especially Cpl Mick Ward.... Bugger still owes me a beer as well
Steve

I looked him up. Your post was a success as it made at least one other person aware of him.

Thanks

Colin

Really liked the story of the airman who actually repaired Lancasters for the Dambuster Sqd, 617.
He died recently with very little family and no living friends, He was 99 and living in an old folks home home.
The staff from the home put his death in the local newspaper and from there it went to social network and when he was buried today there were 500-600 people at his funeral (church holds 100) including quite a lot from the RAF and his old squadron. He was buried today at 11 AM so as well as respecting this old war hero they had the 2 minutes silence along with him.
Well done to the people at his old folks home!

Don

Hi Taff, that's a nice rack of medals your Dads wearing. Is that end one a police long service and good conduct medal? I missed out on that one by just one year. Gutted.
