Hi,

I hope that you will understand my request.

I need to buy some references to paints my Teutonic Grand Master, XIV century.
but I need to find references with pictures to paint not only the coat of arm but the entire figure.

Do you have some suggestions. By the way is there a good book covering most of the Knight figures available by Andreas miniatures and Pegaso. I would like to find something that I will help me to paint the figure (with pictures) not only the coat of arms but the entire figures and the horses too.

Thanks you.

Hi, look for the books of David Nicolle, like "Arms and Armour of the Crusading era 1050-1350", there is two volumes one for the Islam, Eastern Europe and Asia and the other for the Western Europe and the Crusader States, they are not in color, you would find detailed line drawings.

There is a full color publication "The Crusades" by Yli Remo Vallejo and the illustration of Igor Dzis(Russian artist), if you like the Art work this could help you, but may be for serious reference is not that good.

Another reference is "Arms and Armour in the Medieval Teutonic Order's State in Prussia" by Andrzej Nowakowski, I don't have this one, but many people recommended.

For color photos look for "Medieval Military Costume" (Europa Militaria Special, 8)
by Gerry Embleton, this one is small (only 96 pages) but with many color photos and color plates of the author, you may find some great reference and Osprey also has some great titles, look in their site the medieval period and you may find something you like.

I believe there may be several titles in the Osprey Men at Arms series. Osprey books have very good illustrations and often include things like coats of arms. I don't have the list with me, but you can find Ospreys at many dealers, at shows, and in bookstores.

Also check out Osprey's web site atOsprey

Over the years this series of books has provided much useful information for painters.

Good Luck
