Found this in the Bugle Annual a local paper called the Black Country Bugle has copyright ( hopefully I won't get sued :cautious: ) but an interesting tale with a nice pic of the guy. Nice clip Steve,
It brings home the clinical emotionless reporting of the soldiers lost in action.
I wonder if there is an official count of the number of canaries lost in action?

Yeah it was grim mauling work for sure, little removed from Medieval siege works at times

Brings to mind the recent BBC/PBS mini-series "Bridsong," which I liked more than I expcted to. So much so that I actually went out and bought the novel. I am not sure how accurate Faulkes' mining scenes are given his above ground descriptions of the First Day on the Somme leave something to be desired, but they are certainly harrowing. An aspect of WWI I never knew much about.
