Good day, Everyone!

I am planning a large conversion, starting from the beautiful 200mm (or so) Mike French's Lord Cardigan.
In short: I need a horse that matches with the figure, so it needs to suits well the scale and I guess there are not many available nor correct options out there.

Starting to shortlist the potential ones, any idea would help.
So far considered: Le Cimier 180mm, Gordon's French lancers (1/9) - the late one perhaps too much in motion.
Could the 1/12 Airfix Bengal Lancer match? I guess that's too small.

Thanks, Everyone, in advance for your help.

It might be worthwhile looking at the Breyer 1/9th scale horses because, if they match for scale, they are nicely sculpted and there is a lot of choice.

Have you looked at the Breyer traditional horses, they are 1/9 scale are available on E-Bay.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks, Steve.
I did, but not sure if the scale would be correct (never saw one on the flesh), though they look great

Thanks a lot, Richie!!!!

I bought the horse to sculpt a 200mm Colonial figures, I was going to redo the tail and possibly the mane but other than that it is nicely sculpted and good proportions.

I agree with Breyer horses: I have a couple but have yet to put a figure on one.You should be able to pick one or two up from eBay at a reasonable price. I just missed the Mike French Cardigan on eBaay, but have already painted one..................

The only problem is that 3D resin is quite brittle. You won't be able to drill is in order to insert a metal rod. Or it would be extremely difficult. In this case, if you decide to print a horse, chose one with 3 or 4 legs touching the ground.

1/9 Breyer didn't match well.
Probably, Cardigan is too big, slightly bigger than 1/9, whereas Breyer's horse is a slightly smaller scale (than 1/9).
Not too clear in the picture, but compare the horse proportions with the 1/9 French lancer one. Far smaller head and legs...
I need to keep searching. Now, a "bigger than 1/9 horse".

I wouldn’t give up on Breyer horses too soon as they do a huge range of horses in 1/9 scale of all breeds, body sizes and shapes. The one you have does, I agree, look a little sleek…. Try looking for a model of a stockier breed.
or it shouldn’t be too difficult to flesh out the horse with modelling putty.
