Friends,

Just received this superb sculpted rendition of Lord Cardigan, a future release for Imperial Gallery. It is a 90mm figure sculpted by Alan Ball. Hope you like.

Very nice indeed. As mentioned on another thread I've been reading a few books on the Crimean War recently and would recommend the biography of Cardigan by Donald Thomas. Old Cardigan was quite a character and was quite fond of the ladies and duelling pistols!!

Some lovely detail on this - Alan's strong point - but the proportions and bulk seem off.

As for the facial likeness, he had a characteristic curved eyeline (or hound-dog look) and a long, straight nose, neither of which are there in the sculpt.

Yep, this is one of the best 90mm figures that I have seen in years in terms of uniform detail and accuracy. There is/was an old 90mm figure of Cardigan in undress which was shown here some years ago. It bore a much closer resemblance to the earl, but there were some problems with uniform details. This figure is the opposite; the mustache is unaccountably curled up instead of down, but the uniform details, so far as I can tell, are exactly right for Cardiigan in the Crimea. He had been promoted to major general a few months earlier and was no longer colonel of the 11th hussars, but he still wears the uniform with a special sabretache of a general officer. The crossed sword and baton can be clearly seen in the above pic, and the "Egypt" sphinx is gone.
I have just started a new piggy bank labeled "Earl of Cardigan 1854".
