Curretnly I use a hands- free natural light magnifier that I believe is 6x in magnification. i am new to painting figures (4 months) and was just wanting to hear what some of you prefer for magnification strength, and what type of set-up you use.

Thanks for any advice,

Kyle

I use an optivisor bougth by an opticien. It is hands free with band around of my head.
It is colour correct, magnifa off 6 and i have two hands free for painting.
Because the glass is not made off plastic it is a little heavey.

I don't use any magnification generally.

I bought a cheap equivalent of an Optivisor last year as my ability to focus really close is getting weaker as I grow older but I haven't used it so far and I hope I'll only need it for doing fine details, mostly on small-scale figures.

I use an optivisor too. I also have a cheaper version with a light attached but find it uncomfortable by comparison. Einion - time is the thief of good eyesight!

Yes, time is the thief: I turned 40 and it seems I was at the drugstore that day buying reading glasses!

Since starting a few months ago, I have focused in 54mm figure painting, but I've just purchased an 80mm Borders 13th C. Knight Templar, so perhaps that will be a nice break. Should arrive any day....

I'll stick with the 6x natural light fixture I have now. I bought it at Joanne's (for those who you unfamiliar, it is a sewing and fabric type store - I was the only guy in there, but that's fine, cuz they have some great stuff for us modellers) for about $25 U.S., and it's worked for me. Just wanted to get some perspective from others (no pun intended!).

Thank you, gentlemen, for sharing. This is helpful :)
