Hello Guys,

I starting on the Pegaso 75 mm. Prussian officer. Because he is done already so many times i've decided to do something "original "with it. I will give him a monocle on the left eye.
Has anybody a idea how i could't make it, specially the glass. Out of ledwire i can make the frame of the monocle.
How can i make the chain where the monocle is hanging on ????

I hope on some creative idea's

Marc

A good idea marc, would be two very thin wires spinned together with a drill or something. Place the one end in a secure stable place and the other on a drill>> give it a few spins and see the result. You can prolly do the same by hand.
Also a very unique material that you can use, that i found out the other day, is from bulbs. If you have a not working bulb you can see inside it a very very thin spiral wire. I Suppose you can use that one too :)
Hope those ideas will help you out.

Hello

My idea;
Use a very thin fuse wire, turn this around a needle with the size of your monokel a couple of times. Then cut along the top and you have several small rings.
Use Krystal Kleer (from Micro i think) a product often used by plane builders to make very small windows in planes. Use a needle and place a drop inside the ring, turn the needle around inside the ring and you get a thin skin covering the inside of the ring. Krystal Kleer is white when its wet but become clear when it dries.
I know Aber makes photo etch chains in very small sizes.

Just my thoughts.

Cheers

That's what I would have recommended.

It's fiddly work but if you use fuse wire you should be able to seal the gap by gentle heating with a hot tool, causing the tinning to flow, instead of trying to superglue something this tiny!

Some monocles don't have chains. If you want one you could simulate the chain with paint on a very thin support, a hair or stretched sprue maybe. Paint it a dark gold colour then carefully dot in pure gold with a fine brush, from a distance this will look like the alternate links on a chain (although it works better at smaller scales).

Have you considered the modifications to the face you might need to do to get the monocle to sit properly Marc? You have to sort of clench your brow and cheek to get one to stay in place!

If not Krystal Klear, try a drop of PVA adhesive.[/quote]
Does that work? I tried it a while ago attempting to make specs for a 1/16 bust and I couldn't get it to stay - it kept on shrinking toward the sides as it dried. Too wide a gap maybe.

That's exactly it Einion - it works if the gap is small - I used to use it for filling aircraft windows in the olden days before I was converted to figures.
