I watched an inspiring new TV programme last night called Making Faces on Channel 5. This was about facial prosthetics for people with deformaties to the face caused by all manner of things, fights, cancer etc. While this has nothing to do with figures and busts per se it does have a lot of similarities in the manufacture of facial parts used for people with disfigurement. Castings were made from plaster of paris and silicone and the techniques used were not disimilar to our own. I was amazed at the expertise and the humanity of the doctors and technicians based in Birmingham UK that make and apply these prosthetics and I was really humbled watching this programme. The patients themselves were so down to earth about their situation I found myself close to tears on occasion and I am not ashamed to say that.
I only mention it on this site due to the scenes with casting and producing the items which have a similarity to our castings. The fact that ours are just a hobby and these are for changing peoples lives for the better does not need saying. I see a lot of really good figures and busts on this site but I have to say on that programme I saw a lot better.
If you get the chance please watch this programme. It is on for a few weeks on Thursday nights at 9pm. You will be humbled and amazed I promise.

I think you'll find that Poste Militaire did it much better back in the 80's :sneaky: Seriously watching it now very interesting stuff
