Thanks for all your comments.I've recently been trying to be less subtle for a change, but i always end up with the same result.

No need for apologises Mark as I've been painting this style for ages and it's just the way I do it.I sometimes envy the artistic style of painting that the acrylic boys achieve but I'll just be sticking to my way. It's good to hear that others appreciate my work

Brian,

I think such thoughts can cut both ways! Ask yourself a question?

'How many 'Acrylic boys', would love to master oils .. being the scary medium that it is, and vice versa, for the Oiler's. with Acrylics. ;)

We have all seen the good and the not so good, in both mediums.

To master both would be an accomplishment indeed! :D

Regards,

Mark

I have been an "oily" for many years now as that is the medium that I feel most comfortable with but lately I have used acrylics and enamels alongside my trusty oils. I am now in the process of painting "The Marauder", a new 90mm Viking release from MDP using just acrylics. It is daunting for me but seems to be coming along ok. It's just a different way of painting and I must admit I like the drying times better. But I miss the way the colours merge together when I use oils. Each to their own I say but it's always nice to try new methods. I hope to put my Marauder onto PF when it's finished and all the experts out there can give their opinion on my efforts to see whether I use acrylics again or stick with oils.

Brian, I am sorry if my comment about your work being subtle upset you. That wasn't my intention. In fact it was meant very much as a compliment. I reiterate that I wish my work looked as good as yours. I've been painting for over 40 years and I'm still not completely happy with anything I've ever painted. I guess that we all have some insecurities about our work, but I must say that I am impressed with your painting skills.

In no way did you upset me Mark, quite the reverse,as most people comment favourably about my subtle way of painting.I don't think i could paint any other way ,as i've been painting for over 30 years now,and although i like the work of some of the acrylic guys,i wont be changing now, although i can always get some techniques from them, and adapt it to using oils.
I'm the same as you,as i'm never totally happy with my end results, even figures that have won awards.Guess that's just a genetic fault of insecurity i've inherited.I get the most pleasure in the painting process, and i always say, that my best figure will be my next one.

Brian, that was (Jazz) John's post! not mine:D

Which would indicate that I have been using oils since the age of 8, ..

I am not saying John, is old,... just older than me.
