Death Of a Warlord...
On March 15, 2004, two young border guards from the Russian army, sergeants Muktar Suleimenov...
... and Abdul Kurbanov...
... left their post in the Dagestan border region of Beshta on their own initiative to spend a few hours in their nearby home village.
On the way they happen to meet one of the most cruel Chechen warlords, Ruslan Gelayev, who had separated from his people to cross the border alone unnoticed.
The border guards probably didn't even recognize Gelayev and only wanted to check the documents of a supposed homeless person.
He shoots at the two men with his short-barreled Kalashnikov (originally developed for house-to-house combat and which can easily be hidden under clothing) (Osama bin Laden also preferred such a weapon!)...:
One of the border guards died instantly, the other returned fire and shot Gelayev's elbow.
The wounded rebel commander still manages to shoot the second border guard, but he only survives his victims by a short time.
Gelayev cuts off his helplessly hanging left forearm with a knife and tries to stop the bleeding with a leather strap.
This does not succeed - Gelayev bleeds to death.
Only 50 meters away from the two dead border guards, the police found Gelayev's body....:
In der unversehrten Hand hält der Rebellenführer noch im Tode eine Tafel russischer „Aljonka“-Schokolade…
The two killed border guards are posthumously awarded the title "Hero of the Russian Federation"...
