Lenin's Brother Dies At The Gallows!
On May 20, 1887, Aleksandr Uljanow...
... and four other participants in an assassination attempt on Tsar Aleksandr III. are hanged at the fortress of Schlüssselburg near St. Petersburg.
Uljanow had studied biology in Saint Petersburg and received a gold medal for his outstanding thesis in zoology in 1886...:
But instead of dedicating himself to his career, he trades his gold medal and buys dynamite with the money.
Uljanowhad already joined the group "Narodnaja Wolja" (People's Will/People's Freedom) during his studies, which had already carried out the deadly assassination attempt on Tsar Alexander II five years earlier.
New goal of the group was now the successor of the Tsar, Tsar Alexandr III. , like killing his predecessor and introducing a democracy, freedom of opinion, freedom of the press and freedom of conscience.
The plan of the group was to Alexandr III. to kill like his predecessor with a targeted explosion.
When they searched the route in St. Petersburg for a good hiding place, they were randomly checked by the police on March 13, 1887 in the middle of Nevsky Prospect and finally arrested.
It was the anniversary of the fatal assassination attempt on Aleksandr II, a day when the police were particularly vigilant...
A little later the arrested are brought before the court (photo from a Soviet movie)...:
Despite a plea for clemency to Tsar Alexandr III. by Uljanow's mother, Maria Aleksandrova, née Blank ...
…Aleksandr Ulyanov is found guilty and finally hanged on May 20, 1887 along with four other members of the conspiratorial group...:
Two other members of the assassin group receive prison sentences: Bronislaw Pilsudski 15 years, his brother Józef...
...five years.
Under the impression of the execution of his older brother, his brother Vladimir, who is also a student,...
...three days later the university final exam, also with an award.
The execution of Aleksandr was a key experience for his brother Vladimir Ulyanov, which put him on the path of revolutionary resistance.
Vladimir Ulyanov will go down in history under his underground combat name "Lenin"...
Meanwhile, Lenin and a friend of his older brother will become deadly enemies!
The co-conspirator of his older brother, Józef Pilsudski, would later become President of free Poland after the First World War and, as the Polish Army Commander-in-Chief, inflicted a crushing defeat on Lenin's Red Army in Warsaw in 1920, as a result of which Poland would remain free...
