While I'm not a big fan of the mantles and cloaks on knights outside of religious orders, question their use in the field, the figure is what it is. If you look up The Macejowski Bible
http://www.medievaltymes.com/courtyard/maciejowski_bible.htm

There will be plenty of reference in the folios of this illuminated version of the Old Testament. It is the best primary source of reference for the time period in question for arms, livery, armor, costume etc.It was done in 1250 and parts were later added as late as 1270. There should be plenty of ideas in that. Other possibilities are the Manessa Liederhandschrift, Mathew Paris, several 13thc. manuscripts in the Bodleian Libary http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/dept/scwmss/wmss/medieval/mss/misc/13th.htm
or if you want some really colorful heraldry any manuscripts from the court of Alfonso X. Spanish herladry is some of the most colorful I've seen and would make fro some very cool figure work. And the preiod is right, that mid to late 13th c.
