I know this is probably the wrong place for this but I couldn't put it on the calendar.

Just a reminder that the Miniature Figure Collectors of America show is approaching. The show will take place Friday April 30th and Saturday, May 1st at the Valley Forge Convention Center in King of Prussia/Valley Forge PA.

There are two hotels at the center - Radission (which is on the other side of the center-long walk from the show, but same building as the hospitality suite). The other is the Stanticon which is directly above the show floor. The hotels (both) local reservation number is (610)337-2000. Recommendation is to make reservations locally, these hotels consistently lose reservations and especially when they are made through Radisson's national number.

This show is probably only second in size to the Chicago show (for the US) and attracts large numbers of painters and collectors from around the world. Every year, they try to host "speak to the artist" where you can chat about figures with many well known painters such as Claudio Signanini, Ivo Preda and many others you might not normally have the chance to meet. Along with all of the Masters (MFCA Grandmasters) who attend and are always willing to chat.

An enormous vendor area offers everything from figures, to books to militaria and plenty of toy soldiers. The folks who host the show also put on a great hospitality suite every year. The show is very close (across the street) from the Valley Forge historical site, about 30 minutes from Philadelphia (about 30-45 minutes from Philly airport) and about 2 hours soutwest of New York City.

Always a worthwhile trip to one of the most prestigious shows in the U.S. . With SCAHMS coming up this weekend for our west coast bretheren, and Alanta just having passed, we're officially in the U.S. show season!

Lou,

Thanks for the information but can you give any info on when the show opens on 4/30? I still don't understand why this show with its size does not have a website or have any flyers out?

Joe

They have flyers, but I think their mailing list is rather limited. I will find out what time the show opens tonight and further particulars tonight when I get home and will post them here.

Joe,
It usually opens around noon on Friday for exhibitors. Earlier for vendor setup.

Thanks for the reminder. I try to make this show every year now. It's always a great time.
I was given a web address for them once but nothing has ever been added except their name.
I was going to post it here but I just checked it again and it didn't work :( .

For those of you who mave have never attended the MFCA show it was my home show for 20 years and was at the time the largest show in the States. I think Chicago has surpassed them now. It would be well worth you while to attend if you can.

Gordy, they do, I'll have to dig around and scan it.
Bob, I also arrive Thursday. There are some pretty good places around there-ala Morton's Steakhouse, some brewpubs and everything inn between.

Greetings,
As always I will have a booth there, and position is always the same...in main aisle, when you first walk in, I'm located about halfway between Sentinal & Red Lancer. Kindly stop by my booth & introduce yourself.
I may be looking to unload some figures from various historical periods (branded stuff that I purchased to send to Russia for painting, but will never get around to it, so will liquidate inventory at show).
Of course, I'll have all of the regular figure products & accessories that I sell. I am trying to build a display for that special groundwork line I sell ("Groundwork 32"), since I have had requests the past 2 years to bring this product, and I recently stocked up.
Look forward to meeting you there!
Best Regards,
John McNenney

PS - note to Bob Tavis...would like to take you up on open offer for dinner on Fri night. The more the merrier!

Just a note to anyone who is attending the show, I would call and recheck your reservation! I made mine a month ago and decided to call this morning to just check on it and guess what? The idiots did not have me down for a room! Needless to say after my conversation I got my room but I took names, numbers and times down!

Joe

I have found that if you are staying right at the hotel where the show is (forgot the name) that they are famous for overbooking. Best bet is to get your room right away upon arriving to insure you still have one even then.

Guys, Though it's great to stay at the show hotel, here are some alternatives that may save you some $$$'s. I'm planning on staying at the Macintosh Inn. It's only about a 2-5 minute drive to the show and is loacted by the entrance to the King of Prussia Mall. Though this list is taken from a site for another event it looks as if these places are located close or very close to the show location.

Uh, oh, That means "show up early to make sure you have a room".

I hate the hotel, it's old, grungy, people are rude. But I'd rather stagger into an elevator at 4 am than have to figure out how to get back to a hotel.
