It looks like a muck boot to me. I'm not sure what they were made of in early 20th century Russia. Today, they are made of rubber (neoprene).
This figure does look very useful.

How the figure has been painted it looks like the boots are made of cast iron, but I cant imagine they were made from Iron.....

I see what you mean Dave. Kind'a Frankenstein-ish.
The oxide red could be clay but, I'm not sure about the texture.
Felt or lambs wool?? Maybe someone who has seen older muck boot from Russia could tell us.

I'm pretty sure these boots were made of felt. They were also issued to German soldiers acting as sentries on the Russian Front.
