Afternoon all
Seems a while since I've posted anything and with the hot weather and a busy period of work I've been struggling to motivate myself to get on with anything (as is usual for me during the summer months)
Anyway at the start of the weekend I decided to get stuck in to the pot of 'nearly dones' (This is a bit like a shelf of doom, but the figures in it are basically finished and ready to be based up)
This is another of Mike Blanks fabulous sculpts which is cast in resin and sold by Steve (SK Miniatures) 70 mm high it's basically a one piece figure with a piece of wire for the cane and a few of the sticky out bits cast separately . A few minor mould lines to sort out but nothing too serious so it's ready to paint fairly quickly unless you choose to break out the dremel and set to work undercutting the coat and waistcoat and adding a recess around the voluminous cuffs etc.

Although I thought I'd finished painting it I decided to push the contrasts more and deepen the shadows on the red coat and the white shirt and then of course I repainted the blue cuffs and retouched the face (Well its a good way to get used to swinging the brushes again!) The red incidentally uses the new Scale 75 tube colours which I really liked; they are very creamy, take a bit longer to dry and you don't need to shake the bloomin' pot till your arm aches :) (Just ordered some more to try out)

The cobblestones were carved into a piece of Foamex (a type plastic sheet used by sign makers) since I had a couple of pieces laying about and the base is one of Oakwood's finest.

C&C's welcome
Paul

ps - Spurs were missing in my kit, but a quick note to Steve and some more will be sent my way when they cast the next batch (y)

pps - As is traditional with resin swords I managed to break the sword handle when adding the final touches to the figure :arghh:

Thank you both:)
You've done a very nice job on this one Paul.
The red coat looks sumptuous.

Cheers,
Andrew
Red's always been a bit of a funny one for me Andrew; I've never quite been happy with the Vallejo and Andrea reds I've tried (they always end up going a bit chalky) Got to say I didn't have any such issues with these paints and they mixed nicely with my usual paints as well.

Excellent painting Paul, looks like I will be trying these scale 75 tubes as, like you, fed up with shaking like a looney.

Hi Paul

Great to see your productive tine at the bench .....and a MB sculpt so easily recognised

Really like the Reds ....and the overall painting with effective basework

You should do a SBS on painting reds, blues, whites etc ....

.....you seem to like the S75 tubes ..,..,where do you get them from ? .....like Bob my arm hurts from shaking !

Why not enter something into FOTM as well

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Morning Kev

Thanks mate, glad you like it. I'll have a ponder about the SBS and try to remember to take some pics next time.

Yes definitely like these paints (Got them from El Greco, but notice Historex stock them as well at the same price) Funny I never tjought much about the shaking bottles thing, but having not painted for a while all the paints needed a really good shake because they'd been sitting idle for a couple of months (I generally shake with my left hand being right handed so that my painting hand isn't shook up ):D Although like most folks I've got many more paints than I use regularly I tend to paint with a fairly limited pallet so most stay in the rack. Like oil painters a lot of colours are easily mixed from a few tubes and the wet pallet helps . . .

Like I say I've only tried the red and crimson, to date, and both were fairly transparent, (not uncommon with reds), so that may be something to bear in mind;)

Cheers for now
Paul

Lovely clean job on this, Paul.....MB's figures are a sheer joy, I find; been toshing around with a few myself. I can recommend all the Scale 75 tubes and they mix well with water soluble oils( in case you were wondering , Nap!)

Alan

Thanks folks :)

You're right Alan that Mike's figures are great to paint and good to hear that you're enjoying the Scale75 paints as well(y)

Absolutely smashing work.
All the painting is great but the red is stand out (y)
Derek

Cheers Derek - photo's are very flattering, but I'm pleased with the red and almost got what I was going for on the gold tassels on the sash

You have done an excellent painting job on this one Paul. I also like the simple, uncluttered groundwork. Well done indeed.
Chris

Cheers Chris(y)
(Simple groundwork was, at least partly, down to laziness. My original idea was for him in a formal garden setting looking at a peacock!)
