Hi to you all out there ,

Those that went to Euro this year would have seen a new trader there , namely :

with the owner Peter Czyz together with his father looking rather good in their distinctive red shirts both proudly displaying their products .

I met them both for the first time and a very nice couple of guys they were , Peter being so enthralled with his work and the show !!!.

I was given the review piece to run my eyes over and share with you all , the subject being a military horse .

We all know of the Polish winged Hussars ( of which Siskin have released models of ) but the tradition is still going including in WW2 where we see the charges of the cavalry against the enemy tanks.

We all can I am sure appreciate the sheers beauty and superb strength of the horse in general.....here are a couple of pictures for you to enjoy ( I have only done a gray type as this is what the box art has been done by ..other colours are available!!)

Hi again,

Well lets see what we have in the stable Ooops ;) sorry I mean box:

Title: Military Horse

Ref: NA

Scale: 1/10th

Material: Gray resin

No of parts: 2 for the horse plus 5 formers with bridle straps and buckles on ( total of 10)

Sculptor and Box Art: Marcin Niedzialek

Casting: In house at Siskin

Siskin have improved on their previous packaging which had a slip over paper surround by having a nice box with a magnetic flip over side ( and yes it does work ...I tried it on the fridge side!!!) . A lot of thought on the company image has been put into the box by using a hard wearing black cardboard with gold lettering and a well reproduced colour picture on the top .

On opening up we find not only the resin but also some goodies in the form of a sticker and a pin badge plus a couple of business cards with e mail and FB details ( Oh and a rather dashing picture of Peter!!)

, in addition to these we have a larger pictures (approx A5 flyer size) of the painted version together with one after sculpting has finished.

As stated above the parts consist of 2 for the actual horse ( head and neck ) and formers with the bridle straps etc on.

Lets look at the Prep now :

Firstly the horses head where this meets the neck you will need to smooth out the surfaceSiskin Horse 016.jpg , the same comment goes for the neck itselfSiskin Horse 008.jpg , on the review head their was the need for the use of putty to fill an air hole , once joined together some filler is advised , I hasten to add this work is minimal and when together its looks good.

Fine casting lines will need to be sanded away from the ears .

On the formers with the straps these are delicate and held well on the formers themselves and a very sharp knife is essential to carefully remove these ready for fitting ( keep those plasters handy!!!) .

Not being a horsey type myself I would liked to have seen a locating diagram for the straps and buckles but saying that you should be able to get the details from the pictures .

Lets look at the pieces themselves firstly the head:

This is slightly turned to the left and has been sculpted with the main straps on , these are well worked of particular note is the clean way the buckles have been done , I also like the curb chain underneath the mouth .

The horses features are nicely done the ears are held upright and proud with great shape Siskin Horse 020.jpg , the forelock hangs in between them naturally , even in the unpainted version IMO the eyes looks alive and alert , moving down to the nose the nostrils are full and again well worked , the mouth is shut together ( phew no teeth to paint!!)

Now to the Neck itself:

This is a mass of toned and powerful muscle , good definition , fit to the head will as I said need filler , the review piece was lovely and smooth with some good work on the mane itself ( a couple of areas need checking to ensure it is all together in the strands .

The back of it has the Siskin details on it
Siskin Horse 012.jpg
, there is no area to locate a base as such so have a careful think about this ( I will level out the lower edge of the neck and drill a hole to take a brass rod )

On now to the Tack itself , these are all held safely on the formers so be very careful , they are all well detailed , the reins are very finely done and very thinSiskin Horse 005.jpg , some might wish to replace these with a modelling sheet ..the choice is yours. After fitting into place the end result is really nice and every effective.

Final Thoughts

This is a nice product sculpting is good but has a few areas that need some patience to deal with ( ie the mane and removal of the tack plus the joining of the head and neck) , once these minor things are done ( which I think should be well within all modellers that are on this forum!!) the end result is a fine looking generic horse .

Of course you do not have to paint it white or gray but having seen the actual model it was stunning as a gray!!

This is a companion horse to the other from Siskin namely the "Hussar Horse" , it has much potential to be used as a standalone piece or as a companion with perhaps the WW2 busts from Siskin making for a very striking display piece whichever you choose.

Its good to see Siskin releasing products a small but very dedicated company with some really interesting subjects ( particularly if your main interest is Polish Military )
