Has anyone found any adverse effects to mixing different brands of oil paints? I'm having difficulty finds W & N oils and will have use other brands.

Hi, Craig. To answer your question, oils are oils and can be mixed freely. What you may consider, however is the quality of the different brands as mixing say a student type oil with a fine oil could reduce the quality of the mix. That may be splitting hair
though; they all mix with one another.--

Graig I'm with Steve. Don't waste your money on student grade oils. Spend the extra on the artist quality. As for mixing, I've mixed W&N, Sennelier, Grumbacher, etc with no problems. And thank God there is another oil painter out there:)

Like these guys say, stay away from the student grade oils. I tried them for awhile, I was trying to save a buck. Once i went to the artist grade I say a major difference in my work. Chris

Thank you guys. I made a trip to the very small but friendly art store nearby and they did have the W & N line of Winton colors, so I was able to get the tubes I needed. I hope to have my figure done before too long and hope to post it here.

As well I picked up a bottle of citrus cleaner by DEMCO which I am really liking for cleaning my brushes as an alternative to mineral spirits.

Salut

I've used the Winton paints since I bought a starter set many years ago and have been quite happy with them. It wasn't till just a couple of years ago that I found out they weren't the top line stuff. But I have still been happy using them. And most places I go, they are the only W & N they carry. I'm finding difficult with my work shift and moving here in Montreal to get all the stuff I need.

I appreciate all the comments.
