Sorry to be maybe very nitpicky but some thoughts and questions while looking at your new release:
The bust seems to be inspired by a figure of the award-winning diorama by Bill Horan "Ghosts of Chillianwallah". Maybe giving him a small credit for the idea would be nice.
Would a soldier of the Victorian epoche wrap the Regimental Color around his neck like a towel and place his greased rifle on top of it - and yes I know they were exhausted and beaten - ? I recall an incindent when the National Color (of Germany) touched the ground during the daily morning ceremony of the flag parade... and this was back in the eighties of the last century. In the aftermath according to regulations the flag was burned. And when people gave up their lives to save the flag back then - wouldn`t they treat it more carefully after saving it?
What about the physics of this soldier? Take a closer look on the second picture at the distance between face and ears and the size of the hands compared to the size of the head. Does it look natural?

These notions aside the bust dislpays great details and tells a story which is very nice. I am sure that the painted version will look cool but even a master painter can`t correct anatomy.
My honest two cents. - If it`s just me feeling that there is a problem with anatomy disregard my message and best of luck with marketing of this new product MJ!
All the best!

Hello Martin,

Thank you so much for your comment about my new release.

I understood what you mean while reading your comment carefully.

In my opinion about correct anatomy and my question to you.

We can see many photos or drawing about anatomy and they are good reference for looking natural.
Yes, it is right and it tell to us best ratio.
But I think it is just a reference, not perfect solution.
Because it is ideal ratio for looking good, all humans anatomys are similar but not same and little different.
Some guys have small heads, some guys have big hands, this actor's eyes are too small, that actor's noise is too big, etc...
These tell to us why all humans looks different and can have character.
What do you think? :)

Of course, you can think this soldier looks unnatural and other friends also can agree with your opinion while looking photos.
Also, I agree that even a master painter can't correct anatomy.
But in my opinion, I think this bust looking natural while looking this bust directly through my eyes :)
However, your feeling is yours and I also could understand while looking again photos.
So, it was not your wrong, it was my fault because I took photos and use them :)

Thank you once again for your real kind comment about this bust, thank you for your interested.

All my best regards,

MJ

Hi MJ,
thank you for taking the time to reply and for understanding. I agree that not everyone is fulfilling the ideal of the golden ratio - I just have to look into the mirror:). Still my body parts and these of the majority of people I meet every day are "in scale". Otherwise you start wondering what is not right with the person you are looking at - is he sick or disabled etc - or is your own view influenced by alcohol or narcotics:D .
If there is a problem with the pictures and not the bust I am defintely wrong with my opinion and you must know because you are an excellent sculptor and can take a look at the original sculpt.

All the best!
Martin

The Colours given to the regiments of the British army are carried with pride and on them are the battle honour's that each regiment or battalion has won. It is no disgrace for the colours to be torn but saved and in time new colours are presented to the regiment's or battalion's concerned. The 'old' colour's are then hung in in the county town or cathedral which is affiliated to that particular regiment. They are not burnt.

Hello again Martin,

Yes, you are right. I always wonder and try to insert feeling in small figures, but it is too hard...haha!!
And a sculptor for this bust is Carl Reid, I'm a just painter and caster :)

Anyway, good to talk with you and thank you very much for your opinion :)

All my best regards,

MJ
