I am seriously saddened and tired with the way this recast situation has gone. It's become a long winded subject that's only going to discourage not only members but new members coming in.
Is there anyway this subject or anything related can be moderated or elimated in some way instead of continuing to stoke the fire?...........No not throwing the net out to catch some fish......Regards to all.........Wayne

I disagree. Shining the spotlight on this issue raises awareness of the practice of recasting and hopefully helps to educate modellers about the damage it causes to the industry that supports our hobby. I do agree that some of the commentary on this issue has become repetitive and there are some troll baiters and trolls who just want to start arguments for a bit of sport, but I hope most Planeteers understand that our forum can play a leading role in helping change attitudes towards recasting and hopefully reduce its impact on legitimate artists.

Hi Wayne,

I agree there has been an unusual amount of discussion on the topic recently, but simply judging by the number of responses it is a topic of concern for many members, so I would not actively discourage the topic.
I agree with Tony that this forum could actually help, by educating newcomers (when I started doing figures I once accidentally bought something that turned out to be a recast; PF pointed that out to me) and maybe by helping manufacturors (detecting recasters, generating ideas).

It could be worthwhile to create a pinned post about recasters, summarizing all the arguments used in discussions. Something like this was done at another forum, which I found very informative. If another flaming thread pops up, the poster can be referred to that pinned thread. Just an idea.

Cheers,
Adrian

Denial is no recipe for a cure. I concur that making the membership fully aware of the issue goes a long way towards protecting the artists and manufacturers from this business crippling piracy that is going on.

If you want those excellent figures to keep coming our way, don't buy those fakes.

Wayne you moan about the proliferation of threads about re-casters.
Then start a new thread on, re-casters.
How to spot recasts was summarised, and it is pinned.
I know what you mean though, there's more to the hobby than counterfeiters.(y)

Banning the discussion of certain subjects - even controversial ones - is called censorship, and I think all would agree that's not we're about on here. Not a healthy road to go down. And as others have said, talking about recasters can help to raise people's awareness of the problem, new members in particular.

However, there is no place for trolling, insults, name-calling, threats and general unpleasantness. There's been too much of that on here around this subject in the recent past and it ain't nice. So any threads that degenerate into slanging matches will be locked.

As a community we're never all going to agree on everything all the time, but the bottom line is we're all on the same side. So plenty of scope for some lively discussion, but no reason not to keep it civil.

Well Steve, you have already closed one thread down, which wasn't offensive because you have had enough about recast's yet you actively encourage it by replying to this thread.I think you need to climb down off your high horse as a moderator and let things flow a little more smoothly.
Yours slightly annoyed.
Ralph.
Ps. Are you going to close this thread now?.

Oh great, here we go yet again, well done Wayne, this was a wonderful well thought out idea.

Ralph, the reason why I closed that particular thread was explained in my last post in it. And like I said higher up here, there's nothing wrong with discussing recasting.

I apologise if I come across as high-handed. That's not my intention and I guess that's one of the pitfalls of the written word as opposed to face to face. Believe me I'm not a moderator for the "glory" or the "glamour" or the "power" because honestly - there is none! I was asked last year to help out as a mod and I agreed because I saw it as a way of maybe being able to give a little back to a great site. It really is that simple. One thing I have learned though is that it really is true that you can't please all of the people all of the time!

Ps. Are you going to close this thread now?.

No. But if it degenerates I will.
