Hi Planeteers,
I attended the above show yesterday located in Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, UK. It was a well organised event situated at a military Cadet base and a few cadets were there helping out with parking etc. They did a fine job and helped make the day run smoothly. Proceeds from the event went to the "Help the heroes" charity.
Several vendors made an appearance including El Greco and MDC and the event was supported by several clubs such as Meir, Stafford, Wombourne, North Staffs etc. The clubs put on a great display of models.
There was a refreshments tent set up, an open bar, and free ample parking within the base and even charactors from "Star Wars" showed up, braving the scorching weather in their costumes all day. Even a huge (and I do mean huge) Darth Vader was there.
The standard of models in the competition room was of a high standard. Our own Housecarl was there and I saw his WW1 Sgt bust that has recently been shown on the Vbench. The Best of Show deservedly went to a Sci-Fi piece called "Shot down in flames" which depicted a crashed spacecraft on an alien planet which had been there for some time as there was still a tiny skeleton in the cockpit. This piece was made from various plane, tank and other kits including unorthodox parts such as Bik razors and pens. It was certainly a well made model and the photo of it here does not really do it justice.
All in all, a good show. Lots of clubs, a good competition, and bar on a sunny day. What else could you want?
