and that's a start for the GK Cast Android 001 ... such a big figure, 1/6th scale ...

finally i decided to cut off the legs (as i foresaw in my review)

for inspiration i just couldn't forget this song :

and here is the model after some time passed on building mains parts together :

here we go, lots of heavy metal music involved in this one, while in white resin she looks like an angel ...
there'S a different story once on Black primer.
the paintbrush used for size reference is a Winsor and Newton series 7 number 1. also you'll see what i use as a primer.
pictures have been taken while the primer was not dried`.

yes, in black .... she's freaky

regarding a project i have in mind here about helping new painters, this is a very good exemple : look at how the black primer is showing us the natural lights and shadows of the model.
this is the "guide" we all should follow ! play with how you put your light sources (i mean the real ones) and choose the one that suits the best to your subject :)

from those pics i can see clearly where are the glazes, where are the shadows and where to put my heavy lights and i,m pretty sure you can see them too :)

for the moment i am projecting on blue vs red :)

as usual it just goes another way :) i made a mistake in a mix (too much violet ink) aaaaaannnnnnnd finally :

at least for now i have a real sheme to follow hahahahaha

not so much brush work for the moment, only the eyes and the "energy flow" in her waist,
all big volumes have been treated with the airbrush for the moment :)
and NO :

airbrushing is not a crime ! LOL

Nice work Franck. The violet tones are making me think of Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell which really works given the subject matter.
I look forward to seeing where you take this piece.

you suddenly make me realize that my inspiration came probably from Ghost in the Shell as i am a big big fan !!! (even loved the movie) sometimes our subconscient is more than probably coming to the rescue :)

here are the progresses for today : I played a little bit with metalics in the airbrush, worked mainly on defining more the various parts to get more interest to the eye, i hope it works ! also started working on various energy effects (basic stages)

thanks Gary, one point on the eyes : with the white being in the center ... there's an interesting effect : if you look at her from the left or right side : she's looking at you with "human eyes" :) kind of like the old puppets where the eyes were freely turning if you move the puppet.
this was totally a pure random effect as i never thought of this ! happy mistake !!!

let me do a little technical post regarding the colors used up to now : all colors are acrylics, S75 range.

Skin :

base : Sandal wood with a tiny drop of violet,
mid : Sandal wood
1st highlight : Sandalwood mixed with golden skin 50/50

Eyes :

base : deep blue with a drop of flat black
Iris : a brush of base mixed with tesla blue and a drop of Neon Blue (Deco-Art acrylics)
"pupil" : Neon Blue mixed progressively with white

Body :

Base : SandalWood with 2 drops of Inktense violet (Scalecolors Inks) : the "happy mistake" !
mids : Base enlightened by Tesla Blue 70/30
Lights : Mids enlightened with Neon Blue and a drop of Alchemy purple (metals range)

Have a great day, if everything goes as planned (LOL) i should work on the back this afternooon :)

Looking back at the photos that is a nice effect with the eyes following you, I'm sure in real it must freak you out when her stare follows you around the painting desk :D.

Gary

LOL, yes it is kinda freaky sometimes :) it's like she's alive ...

here are the final progresses of the week-end. today i worked mainly on the back and added some reds to her Front :)

011.jpg 012.jpg 013.jpg 014.jpg 015.jpg 016.jpg 017.jpg

if you look at her eyes from picture 1 to 4 ... you'll have the feeling that she's just staring at you all the time ... never wanted this, but it's a kind of happy surprise created by inverting the whites in her eyes.

hope you like her !

more to come next week-end hopefully !

This is really coming along nicely Franck, for me personally I think this will be your best piece so far and it really shows how much you are progressing with each model you paint.

Gary

thank you Gary :)

i must say that with my last 2 figures (Kyaaten and Anubis) i felt "something" in my painting, it's like the puzzle was easier to assemble :) it is maybe due to the fact that writing the SBS is pushing me to think more of "how" i'm doing it.

hello Gents,
here are the progresses for today, i'm nearing completion but there are still a lot of little details to work on, shades to finalize etc. I guess my next post will be in the "completed" section :)
decided to work on some golds, finalized the face, worked on the hair and nails :)

i hope you like it !

018.jpg 019.jpg 020.jpg 021.jpg 022.jpg 023.jpg 024.jpg

there was no more airbrush involved in the golds, all is paintbrushed today.
