Hi to you all.
I thought I would share with you some pics of my WWI Guard Pickelhaube. Its dated KFR 1900 inside and is all original and in excellent condition.
There is a story to how I came across this in late 2006.
An old friend called 'Mac' was the original owner. A lovely fellow he was, after originally meeting him in my local pub we became friendsover the years. He was former Royal Navy and as I serve in the Royal Marines we had a lot in common. He was also a keen figure painter. He first told me of owning this and how his Father had brought it back from WWI, at the time with its original cover. I later found out from his sister that Mac would often sit and do his homework wearing it as a small child.
Sadly in 2006 I heard that Mac had passed away, his sister found my address and informed me. She told that all his estate was to be auctioned with proceeds going to Charity as Mac wished. Knowing of the helmet and the history with Mac I immediately made enquiries and with the help of his sister I was fortunate to bid and win the auction. I couldn't bear the thought of some stranger who did not know the history and more importantly did not know Mac getting hold of it.
Well I hope I have done you ok Mac, I think he would be pleased to know it went to safe hands and to a friend.
I will treasure it and it reminds me of Mac and his father.
For know please enjoy and I will gladly pass any info required on the helmet and details to fellow figure modellers, in the memory of Mac.
Best wishes Graham
