Jimmy, lovely work! that face has that realistic visual which is quite a rarity. I love it, It pulls your eyes right in. Great camo cream.(y)(y)

Not quite sure about the thing over his shoulder though! what is it ?

Regards'
Mark

Hi Jimmy,

I agree with Marks comments but reckon it would look better still without the"strap" thing ove his shoulder .

Thanks for sharing

It was common practice in Vietnam for everyone in a patrol to carry extra 7.62mm link for the GPMG M60. To protect the link from the jungle conditions ie keep it dry and clean, mattress covers (green) or inners (black) were sometimes cut to carry the link. I deliberately left a hole in that one so the link could be seen. I tried for the "start of a patrol" look which is why everything is relatively clean. There is actually 50 rounds of link in that belt, from a Hong Kong manufacturer who makes individual rounds and link that has to be assembled like the real thing.

Nice work Jim, I like the addition of the ammo belt......great piece, well done mate.

Hi Jimmy.
Fantastic work all round, camouflage looks brilliant like wise cam cream.

You say 99 0/0 done so excuse me if in you plans but I would dirty up scrim/sweat band. But other than that brilliant.

Peter.

Hi Jimmy.
Just noticed SAS badge on the plinth. Is this a member of the Australian regiment?

Just seen the title,South African.

Peter.

Peter yes it is Australian hence the metal badge. The other pin on the base is a map of Vietnam with the Australian Service medal ribbons for Vietnam.

Many thanks Jimmy.

Figure is a credit to you. And added to my knowledge of Aussie SAS wearing USA combat gear.

Thanks.

Hi Jimmy

Can see you attention to detail with various cam elements on this guy.
Also effect of manually painted pack & face vs printed fabric of jacket.
Nice tribute to the troopers!

Know exactly what you mean with ammo belt covered with liner tubing :)

Suggest little more raggyness on ends of scrim scarf, you know what this is like when you tear it off.
What do you use to recreate this?

Also intrigued with ammo belt - who makes this & do they do other types e.g. .303? Or .50 cal?

Thanks in advance mate

Mike

Hi Jim,

I'm so glad you chose to paint the tiger stripe camo, it looks awesome. I understand your intention is to show this trooper relatively clean (about to go out on patrol) so I understand he's cleaner than he might normally appear. I think the scrim netting around his head and neck is a bit too clean and bright. Could do with some washes to tone it down a fraction. The wooden plinth and the addition of the SASR badge are just perfect.

Mike I found my scarf here is the real one (Vietnam issue) I'll adjust the colour accordingly. I found some bandage that was close to the pattern then staine dit with oils. I think the effect was as close as I could get.

Here are some close ups of the ammo belt loaded in an M60 and draped on the NA Vietnam Infantryman
