That one on cuirass has one nasty hole in it!
There are a couple more of them in the Invalides Museum in Paris, and they all have been hit on the right side, which may mean the poor fellows wearing them were charging when they caught the ball, leaning to the right (saber) side and exposing themselves away from the protection given by their horses' neck and head.
It's a good reminder among all that glittering uniforms of what the whole bussiness was about.

Sobering indeed! Let us know if you get some shots from Invalides Museum :)

Espectacular! Tengo pendiente poner por ahí un album de Los Invalidos, pero este museo es simplemente espectacular! Nada que envidiar, la verdad.
Gracias, "vecino" :)

Hi Louis,

Thanks for sharing your pics of this wonderful collection-I love painting these subjects so I am sure to be visiting your post time and time again. Interesting the metallic colours, for example I was surprised how much Copper there appears to be in the Cuirass.
Great reference material, do you know if there is a catalogue of this collection available?

Note it is an officer's cuirass. Trooper ones were yellow brass.

There is a French book with excellent pictures in it (much better than the poor ones i took). It's titled "Les trésors de l'Emperi", published by Editions de la Revue Napoleon. It was first pulished some 3-4 years ago and has recently been reprinted, with added contents. I think i got my copy for around 60-70 €, not cheap, but worth every cent, IMHO.
