My latest purchase is a 75mm Romeo figure of an Iroquois Warrior 1750's (he's wearing an "acquired" British coat). Between the face/head, bare chest and thighs, there is alot of skin to deal with! It's a beautiful piece and poor skintone will ruin it. Warpaint will take up some of the area but the base skin is still so important.

To date I've only dealt with European subjects, except for one Mamaluk (posted elsewhere in this forum) who I believe turned out a little dark. I've managed to differenciate between Northern European tone and Mediterranian tone fairly successfully but native American tones are new to me.

If anyone can help with a recipe using Vallejo acryllics I would be more than grateful. I look forward to hearing from anyone who might be able to help.

Cheers!

Can't really help with specific colour recommendations for VMC (see below) but one thing you might try is taking your standard colours for caucasian skin and making each one slightly more red-brown (except for the shadow colours, which may work fine as-is) by mixing in just one additional colour.

My standard way of doing ethnic fleshtones in acrylics doesn't use any premixed colours so it could be hard to do equivalent mixtures with Vallejos, but if you want to give it a shot I use various mixtures of white, a red and yellow earth plus black, with a few other colours used for glazing on top of the main work (for a bit of ruddy colour in the cheeks, on the nose, that sort of thing).

The white and black are obvious and their Yellow Ochre (913) is probably similar enough to work about the same as the colour I use, but I'm not sure of the closest things to the red earth I use. Red Leather might work, but you'd probably be better off using Vermilion or maybe Scarlet - very easy to adjust for the slightly brighter red.

Hi Colin,
Check out the SBS section, Steve Pepper put up a great step by step for Native American flesh, I think it was in oils but you may be able to transpose the colours to acyrlics.
cheers
