Hi friends!

I need advice about an acrylic silver paint that works well. Normally I use Vallejo paints, but the metallic colours don´t work for me very well because they are very pasty, so I use the metallic colours of Cytadel, but it doesn´t have in its range colours a Silver like Vallejo Silver. Also I need advice for Gold colours, because Cytadel doesn´t have a good range.

Thank you very much in advance for your attention,
Cheers.

Francisco

Jo Sonja acrylics have only one Silver colour in the range but I find it can be mixed with Black, Blue and brown to make a variety of metallic shades.

Mixed with a bit of water it goes on very smoothly and dries dead flat.

Thank you very much to all for your answers. Yes, Joe, I´ve tried to thin it down with water, but the results aren´t good enough for me. I usually use Vallejo acrylics and are excellents, but the metallic colours are very pasty for my opinión, and don´t work well for me. I use Cytadel colours that are excellents, but its range doesn´t have a brilliant Silver like Vallejo, and the range of Gold colours are too short.

I´ll try the Scale75 colours that are more easy to find in Spain that Jo Sonja acrylics.

Once again, thank you very much for your help, friends.

Cheers,
Francisco

You can try Gunze Sangyo Mr. Color metallic color, Mr. Metal color and Mr. Color Super Metallic.

In my opinion, the Scale75 metals (their metal 'n alchemy sets) are the best water-based metallics I've found. I think the Vallejo Model Air silvers are also good, but the color selection in the model air golds/yellow metals is not that good. The Mr. Color metallics are also excellent, but they are alcohol based so you need to be careful using that with your regular acrylic.

I highly recommend trying out the Scale75 ones. One important warning, if you've never used the Scale75 paints, be aware that they come sealed. So you have to poke a hole in the top of the bottle. I've know quite a few people who did not realize this and just squeezed until the bottle top popped and got paint everywhere. The pigments in the metallic paints also settle quickly in the bottle, so you'll need to do plenty of shaking each time you use them.

Scale75 is based in Spain, so that should be very convenient for you. They also just opened up a US distributor, in case anyone in the states is reading this here's the link to the US site http://scalegames.com/
