Hello!

Could somebody help me about Byzantian warflags? I build a vignette about a sieg of Beograd in the XIIth Century, and I have sculpted a Hungarian and a Byzantian flag too. But I haven't references enough about the greek one. I own Ospreys and pictures from Internet, but not the best ones. Pegaso has a figure with a flag in the same theme, I wonder where they find this reference.

All comments are wellcome and thanks!

Cheers,
Balázs

Thank you Marc!

Unfortunatly I didn't find lags there, but I continue the search. I also have used wallpaints from Ohrid and other monasteries as references, but nothing found.

I'm thinking about flags like that Russian flags. But medieval Russian is not same as Byzantian (certanly the cultural likeness is great).

Balazs hi,your byzantine subject is from the Comnenian period of king emperor Manouel A' and his campaigns against Hungary? Because I have some flags to saw you and no like Ahrid monasteries or Russian but different without saints, like two head eagle and some more.Medieval Greek empire is my favorite period(I have read dozens of books and writing articles in a historical military magazine) and I also have sculpt and paint lots of miniatures.

Hello Christos!

I'm very happy that you also like this subject. So, this scene happend in the Comnenos period, but from the time of Emperor Joanes (Manuels father). Stephen II (in Hngarian: II. István) the Hungarian king's (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_II_of_Hungary ) troops have sieged and destroyed the fort of Beograd in 1127.
I need a flag from this time. We have an original Hungarian flag from the XIIth Century, but I didn't know the byzantian herritage.

Thanks,
Balázs

Byzantine flags

Hello Balazs,
give me a few days to search my books and my references to find what you are interested and I will contact again with you.The only thing is that I must find a way to send it to you, probably photocopies by mail.Regards Christos

Thank you Christos!

But I think an electronic way will be easier and cheaper. Do you have a scanner? By the way I will wait.
At the weekend I will start a Thread for my vignette, there could be seen what is the mater.

Cheers,
Balázs
