Hey Guys!

I have been asked to sculpt a vignette of some Marines at Chosin, from the Korean war. I have like no clue about the Korean war, so does anyone have any info regarding the Marines uniforms, boots, webbing during this time. The client wants the great coats, so pic of these or an online source would be super.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Anders.......I believe Osprey has a book out with their uniforms. Here is one of S&T's figures

Anders,

I would recommend getting a hold of one of the S&T figures and use that as a reference for the parka. The sculptor, John Rosengrant usually uses the real thing to sculpt from and I'm sure the figure is spot on. The web gear is the same as USMC WW2 equipment. The best source for that is a book called Grunt Gear by Alex Tulkoff published by Bender Publishing. Weapons are all WW2. Hope this helps.

Hey Guys!

Thanks! I appreciate all input, I might try to locate one of those S&T figures! If anyone have one they want to sell me let me know

Hey Anders

There's great photo essay book about the Korean War called "This Is War," by David Douglas Duncan, a legendary mid 20th Century photojournalist, that though out of print currently, can be easily found at used book web sites or at your public library. Many of the photos are pretty famous being included in many books about the Korean War and Life magazine compilation books. I imagine John Rosengrant used it as a reference source while sculpting his "Chosin Few" vignette. Duncan's images of the actual retrograde are powerful, memorable and inspirational. Check it out.
John

p.s. just checked out Grizzly's posted link, some of the photos there are Duncan's work
