Hi guys,

Just to show you the first in a new range that is going to focus on being a starting point for those developing their own ideas into a bust conversion.
They will be in 1:7 scale, and this first one is now available.

Further details can be found on my site...just check out the link below.

Many thanks for taking a look...Roy.

There's this light bulb lit over my head.

Wow, that is pretty cool Roy.
This might hurt "Old Bill's" feelings.:D
This is an excellent springboard. I've got a bunch of ideas already.
Great start to a fine series.
Keep up the good work.

Very good sculptures, lots of animation.

Roy is a good example of a small company producing great products, and a very nice guy.

Cheers

Holy crap that's cool Roy!!!! Imediately brings to mind all sorts of ideas. Super hero stuff, a cringe from taking an arrow or wound of some sort, a great grimice for a viking in the heat of battle or the sort. Really cool idea! Might be just the motivation I need to finaly try my hand at sculpting something for myself!

Hi Roy

a really great idea and the expression of the face is marvelous.

But one question. How have you sclup the little folds and the texture ( I hope it is the correct expression) into the face??

It looks very realistic

I have just ordered one

Many thanks to everyone for your positive comments, it's all very much appreciated.

Although the 'basic bust' idea is not a new concept by a long way, I hope the new series encourages some imaginative conversions, I'd certainly enjoy seeing them take shape, as my theory here is that the major stumbling block for a lot of cool ideas is sometimes the very basis of the sculpt, in this case the basic head/shoulders unit. If you have this piece to hand, and your idea fits, then you are able to get on with developing your idea instead of getting stuck on some basic part of the sculpt.

I plan to add more pieces to this series soon, hopefully there won't be too long to wait.

Ulrich, the skin texture is not so difficult, and I'm sure there are various ways to accomplise the same effect. The most important thing, I think is good quality reference. Once I have the skin smooth I will typically work it lightly with 2 or 3 different pointed tools to get all the tiny cracks and lines in the skin. Then whatever you are using to moisten your putty or clay, you can use also to soften the appearance of the lines. You will need to repeat this procedure several times at least, so that you get the texture that most resembles your reference.

Jay, you really should unleash your imagination on some unsuspecting box of putty..!!

John, get those ideas rollin'

Roc..Many thanks, you are too kind..(how much do I owe you..??)

Thanks again...

Roy.

Whoooaaaa!!!! That's truly awesome. The only things missing (intentionally) are the facial, eyelashes and nose hair :D

You know Roy, I keep comin' back to this piece and looking at it. Kinda fun to look it over and feel the ideas just bubbling-up under the surface. I have to say, after some close inspection, those have to be some of the most lovely ears I have ever seen sculpted! No joking, really good ears. It would seem, especially in the larger scales, this is an area largely skimmed-over by some sculptors, and these are just top notch. I guess it's the little things that catch my eye. Nice work.

Basil...nose hair..!! that would be cool.

Jay..thanks once again, glad you keep looking..and I can understand any sculptors reluctance to spend time on ears, they can seem complicated beyond reason sometimes..but occaisionally we get it to look a little more correct and I'm pleased that you noticed..cheers.

Ulrich...no worries for the explanation, I'm sure you will find a way to create the effect that you're after..all sculptors work differently, so don't be shy to ask any questions when you see a certain detail that you like..and keep on experimenting, that is the key I think.

Thanks again guys.

Roy.
