Hmmm .......I don't think the box art does this one justice, and it's a shame actuallly as we often hear the shout more commonwealth Infantrymen.

I can see changes I would include to the paint scheme but......
It just doesn't grab my attention as some other figure box arts do. On the plus side, he could be painted as such a variety of units including S. African and Anzac ......so Goody !

Paul.

Maybe it's me....but....those pouches look like they would hamper any natural movement of the arms!.....have to agree about the painting......weak for a box art....not that I could do better....

I think it's the respirator case being the wrong type and too low on the chest.
When worn higher even with the securing string around the back of the wearer the lower half of this satchel stood away from the chest, (which may have looked strange on a bust), and the pouches were almost always upright, suspended vertically down from the shoulder hook to the waistbelt.

You could do without the respirator altogether,
I would leave it off the model I think.

It's still worth saying a big well done for producing a Desert rat though, there's still plenty for a painter to get into.
A couple of medal ribbons and Divisional and regimental insignia will brighten him up no end.

Paul.

Hmmmmm I may have to wash my mouth with ration carbolic soap.

I always thought the respirator was worn like this...
my dad did and he was 'the law' !

I also thought it was mostly worn as an extra utility bag in the desert like this..

But then I found these...

So sod it, my dad's rules were all wrong....
I shall buy one and make him look like this....

Hi Peedee, your dad wasnt "wrong" as the first photo is "regulation" style or how it should be worn. Photo's 3 -5 are worn "in country" style or, worn for practicality not regulation. The last photo is a "Kiwi" soldier who has a bandolier instead and has probably either sold or swapped his respirator somewhere along the line (he would be reissued one from stores if needed...and a good telling off as well ). Having served in the NZDF I can honestly say that what ever makes your equipment comfortable to work with is fine. In my squadron we had 4 guys to a vehicle, and not one of use had identical setups for our webbing :)

I think the box art is fine, it portrays an British or Commonwealth infantryman in El Alamein. Im not sure about the fixed bayonet, these things weight a ton, and are usually stored in the sheath until ordered to "fix bayonets." Still, looks cool anyway :)

Slainte,

Andy

While I admit that the pouches look a wee bit odd, I don't understand why you guys have a hate on for the box art. From my perspective, I think it excellent and realistic. A long way from the in style high contrast coal miner approach. But there is room for many styles. Love the freckles.

Sorry mate I don't have any kind of hate on, my feelings about this figure....which I intend to buy...are as follows.

The kf shirt or tropical shirt cannot be the same colour as the haversack/respirator bag, it matches the webbing if anything but usually a lighter colour.
The rifles sling is almost lime green.

I have no problem in this being painted cleanly but if he has a fixed bayonet and a fag in his mouth he is in the front line and would be dustier, and his kit invariably creased and crumpled.
He's just a bit too parade for me, his kit doesn't look lived in enough.
I too really like the face, there was a lot of fair and redheaded guys serving out there and they don't always tan readily, but their clothing would be sweat stained and dusty in seconds after he put all his kit on.

That doesn't mean I don't like it.

All the best

Paul

Nicely sculpted. Is it just me or does this chap bear a more than passing resemblance to Kirk Douglas?
