Just wanted to say hi as i'm new here. I am just getting back into modelling (used to do some in my youth). This is a great site, and it looks like i can learn a lot. I've put a picture of a current project so you can get a feel for my "level". I'd be interested in any feedback.

Thanks

Keith

Welcome to the planet Keith. You have done a great job with your Lee bust. The only thing I can see is to add more contrast to the gray, by using a darker gray to help enhance the flods and lapels. Keep up the great work and show us more when you can.

Hi Keith,
Welcome aboard!
My preference is for painting busts so I'm happy to see your Lee. It look very good. I especially like the look of your fleshtone. And I agree with Guy on the grey, it could benefit from a little more contrast.
All I'd ask is for more pictures, preferably closeups :).
Craig
PS: Whose kit it that?

Sorry guys i should have made it clear, this is a work in progress. Only the head is finished. The other is just undercoat:)

The kit is a verlinden bust.

Thanks for the comments.

From one Keith to another Welcome  ...

I think you have captured Lee's skin tone very well. I have seen several painted protraits and read many desciptions of Lee and I think you have done very well.

Is the flesh done in oils?

Hi keith

Had realised AFTER i signed up that your id is almost the same as mine, hope it doesn't cause too much confusion.

The skin & Hair were done with oils and to be honest i'm kind of in a dilemma whether to switch to acrylic or not. I have used acrylics before on some Wargames type figures but never on a figure of this size.

The general consensus seems to be that Acrylics are better these days. Is that right?

Keith,

Welcome to PF. I agree with the others. I really like what you have done with the flesh. I can't tell from the picture but the only other thing that I would do is maybe just add a little wash to bring out the hair some more. You may have already done this but I can't see from the picture.

I switched from oils to acrylics but that was just something I did due to a long lay off from painting. I think you can do which ever one you like. Look at the great results that Hardy gets in oils and then Jaume and several others get in the acrylics. The good thing is that this site has talented painters in all the different mediums, so just pick one you are happy with and keep at it.
