Greetings from South Africa,

I am very pleased to have found this group and hope to get a good deal of inspiration from it. I have been interested in Military modelling since childhood with the main interest being figure modelling which I have done on and off for year. I am just getting back into now and here in SA there isn't too much activity.
My profession is a model builder I produce etched brass model railroad locomotives and the figure are always a welcome break.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the welcome, I am about to put some photos into the albums some really great stuff there. Its been a while since I was active in military miniatures, useed to p[aint in oils but am now looking at Acrylics so hope to learn a trick or two on the group.

Hi Carl and Grant,

Thanks for the welcomes, I am starting to get back into the hobby again and am finding the acrylic paints work fairly well but I think a little practice will be needed, I should hunt around the threads and see what is there. I will open another album with my recent acrylic attempts and hope for some good criticism from those who have been doing it a while.

regards
Bruce

Howdy Bruce. I'm like you in that I've done a few miniatures in oils, but now I need to take the plunge using acrylics. This is a good place to get some pointers. Enjoy your stay (y) !

Hi Joe,

I am finding acrylics quite a change from oils, with I have used for about the last 25 years. my main reason for making the change is we can no longer purchase the high quality sable brushes over here and the nylon brush just don't work for me using oils. they seem to work very well using acrylics so I must just soldier on and perfect acrylics. I think I will get there just needs some practice.

Hi Bruce,

I have been using acrylics to detail out aircraft cockpits, and weapons, tools and fittings on tanks (I'll build just about anything that strikes my fancy), and am very pleased with the results . When it comes to figures I use them as an undercoat for the oils. Likewise, I'll pick out some details on the figure with acrylics but have as yet to paint a face with them :cautious:!
