For some time now I've been wanting to create a sculpted piece of work depicting the 'Angel of Arnhem'; Kate Ter Horst. I've spent some time collecting as much reference material on the lady herself and now feel its time to put this project into production. I'd like it to be a large scale piece perhaps 120mm, as I plan to have at least four figures a larger scale would take me far too long to complete! If anyone has seen the film 'Theirs is the glory' then there is a scene where Kate plays herself reading a passage from a book to the wounded soldiers in her cellar, I'd like to replicate this scene but with some tasteful artists' license. Attached is a quick sketch I've just completed as a starter, more will follow so please watch this space and please give any feedback you might have. Many thanks. Matt

Great idea Squeeky Mattt. . . .

Seriously, Matt:

I really am touched by your idea to try and replicate this Arnhem scene in
120mm. Yeh, Monty made a mistake, but there were still great stories of
individual heroic attempts to escape the encirclement of the Wehrmacht
forces on R and R in that area. Who would have thunk it???? I think your idea
has a great deal of merit and I'm sorry that no one has responded to this
thread yet. . . I am sure they will. Doing it in 1:16th / 120mm means you'll
have to convert a number of figures as I see it, mate.

But it certainly is a worthwhile project. Many women in WWII went way
beyond the call of duty. Some gave their lives. Your dedication to honor this
particular woman and as I see it women in general who put themselves in
harm's way during that terrible nightmare, that raped Europe, is indeed, a
worthwhile endeavor. We should never forget. Freedom isn't free. A terrible
toll was exacted. Will it never end.

Many thanks for your words of encouragement. This is a project I've been wanting to complete for some time and I've been putting it off until I feel confident that I can do it justice.

However, this won't be a figure conversion, all the figures are going to be sculpted from scratch and I'm also making the base (update on blogsite as soon as I can). I imagine I'll be working on this project for some time to come will try to keep my blogsite up to date.

Cheers

Matt
