Now this tells such a story ..of comradeship, of heroes , of sadness, and of course the bond that exists between all soldiers of whatever nation and cause they fight for .

Nice little setpiece , painting looks really good as well ...I am sure it will be popular .

I don't recall seeing photos of German paras in the early war years with leather ammo pouches for the Kar98.
They normally had these canvas bandoliers which could hold much more ammunition.

My father served in Crete with the Royal marines (Marine Mobile Naval Base Defence Organization), so did my school mates dad Mr Mercer (a fallschirmjager who was made a POW and married an English girl). They met in our village pub after the war and delighted in each others company. The only conflict they ever had from then on was who paid for the last round of drinks.

A small world - isn't it? :)
