Would love to see one of Lt. Walter A. Dunne, according to some sources, his was the idea for the mealy bag wall at Rourke's Drift. He was also recommended for the VC. His book Adventures in Zululand is a good read.

I am sorry to say I have not heard of him, Was he a relative ?. I always thought it was James Langley Dalton VC who was the brains of the defence. The problem is the film great as it is has buggered our knowledge of the subject.
Alas He wont be for this series as it's Irish Regiments 1881 1901.

Born 10th. February 1853 in Cork, Ireland.

For his action at Rorke's Drift he was mentioned in despatches. He was in further action in the Transvaal war of 1880-1881 and at Tel-el-Kabir in 1882.

After 35 years of service, he retired in Gibraltar in February 1908. He died at The English Nursing home in Rome on 2nd. July 1908.
