Two other authors I'd recommend, both historical fiction set primarily in the pre and post ww2 eras.

 

Alan Furst, author of the Bernie Gunther series. I recommend you begin with "March Violets" set in Berlin in the early 1930's.

 

Philip Kerr writes novels set in Europe just prior to WW2. Kerr's novels don't have to be read in any particular order, each is a stand alone story without repeating characters.
