Geez, the tunic, the helmet, the leathers, the arms, all just fantastically painted! As per usual, a great sculpt from Carl as well.

Now, here's where I earn the ire of my fellow miniaturists. Sang-Eon should know I'm a fan of his work, but I feel like he slipped on a couple small things here. I see a greenish tone to the facial flesh tones that is bothersome to me. I also think the lips go just a tad too pink, and there for, are a bit stark for my tastes. May be the contrast of the pale/greenish (complimentary) flesh tones doing some of that adding of contrast. Again, over all a fantastic duo to say the least, just a couple little picks for me. OK, I'll shut up now!

What strikes me the most is the way he painted
the piping at the edge of the collar. It's not just a
white paint and shading.

The helmet could have been shaped better...

Just when I was day-dreaming about painting this bust (have it for like a week now) before the box art is made public!
Who am I kidding...

Lee is amazing as usual, and congrats Steve for an outstanding release! One of my faves in the last 12 months.

Thank you Gents!!

Jay, Yes, You're right. Absolutely right!! I also think that the facial colours in that pics are a little bit weird. I'm afraid I made a mistake with my camera. It seems that the chroma setting of my camera made the overall colours more pale than actual one.

Anyway, Thanks again and Good luck to Steve!!!!

Nice work Lee, very nice work. I don't think the chroma setting messed anything up. You are really getting the hang of this painting thing.

Simply an amazing piece overall. Sculpting, painting, everything on this piece is simply amazing!

hello
well this painting reminds on the WW1 bust.in any case its finest painting and even if its maybe an experiment in fleshtones its neverless stunning.i would be interested to know if the decals of the helmet are indeed painted or made with computer as decals because they are so neat.on the helmet is no engraving for it.i bought one too and will surely not get to such results but its inspiring to see what an LEONARDO of figure painting can achive.even if i admitt as minor nickle that the steel helmet is not excact the right shape.as on the german grenadier pegaso bust the front is slightly odd.but because the helmet i tilting its not so obvious.and hell its so good that iam not detracted by such an minor thing.
hope to see more busts by Mr.Reid.i even like the big size because i like the stuff more bulky.
cheers

Thanks Folks I'm pleased you like it!

For me I think the painting is simply outstanding, I like the tint it gives an air of realism!

As for the legs Mike, they are in the imaginary box alongside the legs for Magua amongst others etc. I think there could some legs from your busts in there too He He He!
But seriously if you produce a 200mm figure you would struggle to sell the numbers to justify the investment. Unless it's a bronze, but then your talking about a totally different market place.

Anyway thank you all again. And thank you Lee for a fantastic paint job once again!!!!!

Carl

Jay has a really sharp eye. Now I see why the pics are a touch too exotic...

While it has been acknowledged by the painter himself that the issue lies with the pics and camera, maybe it wouldn't be that troublesome if the real piece itself were to come off a little unconventional.

I can only speak for myself here. But what makes Lee so legendary is beyond the "well painted" department. Two things he does consistently are:

1. Unlikely colour and tone choices both unprecedented and yet immediately relatable, effortlessly going that extra zillion miles in reflecting the portrayed character's human conditions.

2. Everyone does what she can to bring out depth wherever depth is sculpted, and one derives joy from producing the subtlest highlights corresponding to the subtlest curvatures. Then there is Lee, playing the same game but even on surfaces with no apparent "peaks" and "troughs", giving the sculpture just dozens more character lines than the sculptor intended. When I looked at this very kit's head sculpt, I was impressed, but could never have visualized the amount of character lines I am seeing here. This is classic Lee. It's like Christopher Nolan and his magic-like film making.

Wow Lee

Fantastic flesh.. in fact I quite like the green tone, given the size of this bust.. your color add life.. else the traditional "flesh" painting style will not bring the character of this buzz out.. the lips is indeed a little too redish

Pls keep it up.

Allan
