Nikos,

Mix equal amounts well so that it is free from streaks, shape with fingers and tools, then leave for about 15 mins. It is quite sticky when fresh, leaving it for a while allows you to work creases, details etc. Keep tool tips moist so as not to pull the surface. Apply around an armature for strength on thin parts (arms, legs, etc if working in small scale). Oh, and practice! I think that's about it!

Hi

Guys do you know any book showing step by step techniques to sculpt with milliput ?

thank you
Hi Nikos,

There are a lot of videos in you tube that you can watch and get a very good idea on hwt to fabricate an armature (there are many available in the market also) and apply Milliput over it.
I am working with Magic sculpt ,which, in my opinio,n is a better material in my hands but milliput is very good as well.
Milliput has a channel in you tube.
In terms of books I would recommned the following: Mike Blank's book on sculpting figures, Andrea's scratchbuilding and conversion of figures , Bill Horan's Military Modelling Masterclass but most important take a look on the forums in this site, there is a "sculpting section" with a lot of step by step presentations. This is the beauty of this site, we are becoming better by seeing each other's work.
If you want additional info send me a message and I can give you more detailed info about books and videos that are available.

Also , Schiffer published a book by Kim Jones a long time ago- I think it's still available- titled ''Sculpting military miniatures".It has numerous pictures ,step by step and I think that this is a good for a beginner, although the style is very old and maybe not as high quality as today's standards.

In my experience sculpting is a very personal thing. Everyone has there own methods ands and processes.
The way I did it is by studying anatomy and proportions. The methods will come. But understanding human anatomy is the key.
Sculpting is a series layers, building onto the rough bulk.
But the first process is an armature, usually wire.

But anatomy books are the best books to buy in my experience!

There are some useful and inexpensive books on sculpting caricature faces and figures in polymer clay and I learned a lot of my methods from these, adjusting for trial and error.
