It may just be the photo's, but the horse looks quite small? Nice figure though - right up my street
Russian regular light cavalry (hussars & lancers) used horses to grow at the withers not less than 2 arshin and not more than 2 arshin 2 vershok.
1 arshin = 711.2 mm ( 2 1⁄3 ft)
1 vershok = 44.45 mm (1 3⁄4 in)
those horses with a height of 1422-1511 mm.

Have a look at some of Fenton’s Crimean War photos. When horses are in short supply you ride what you can get. I’m sure this applies to Bonapartes time.

Andrew

Absolutely Andrew - I had a particular photo of Fenton's in mind afterwards and given the way horse stocks are apparently still showing the after effects of decimation caused by Napoleon's cavalry you are probably correct in your assessment - Just my opinion obviously; I'm sure others will disagree - one of the delights of modelling a by gone era :)

In addition to information about army light-cavalry horses.

"Hippological atlas for visual study of a horse." (Иппологический атлас для наглядного изучения верховой лошади)
Author: Chief of the Nikolayev Cavalry School Major-General Bilderling. 1889

atlas 1.jpg
The color of the table is the Don gelding, improved (мерин донской породы, улучшенной). Growth at the withers is indicated by arshins (в аршинах) and in meters.

atlas 2.jpg
A light cavalry horse: [a height of] 2 [arshin] 1 1⁄2 - 3 [vershok];

atlas 3.jpg
Don horse [regular, not improved]: the height is no more than [2 arshin] 2 vershok.

These were the main breeds of horses for the russian line light cavalry of the 18-19th centuries.

Horse size doesn't bother me here. Can't remember where but I remember seeing a dragoon, I think, on such a small horse his stirrups nearly touched the floor. Lovely figure - like the position and the stowage of feed bags etc - makes it stand out from the crowd. Love to buy one but the, ahem, conflict needs to end first I think.

Is this Lancer trumpeter figure still available? I did not see it on the Chronos website.

Hello.
All my figures are limited editions. Approximately 50-100 copies. After that, I withdraw the figure from production. This figure was discontinued about 3 years ago.

Sorry for last message -I only checked the date of the original post after writing. I assumed because the thread had been replied to recently it was new. Shame it can't go back into production though?:)
