Anything from Latorre is nice, hard to argue with that. This seams to be a very simple - just to do something to release type of piece. That being said, it has a lot of potential as far as painting options goes though.
I thought it was something Celtic from the cloak pin (broach?).
This is pretty cool though I'm not sure if it's the photo or not but,
I see a scar or something on the models right side. What's up with that? Perhaps a rough casting?
I like the rendering of the hair, very real looking.
What size is this?
I agree with Anders, this is a blank canvas with a lot of possiblities, paint wise.

I think the piece is quite elegant and offers lots of possibilities. Facial scar is interesting. It's going on my list! I'm reminded of the fine Pirate bust he did a while back.
The brooch is called a penannular brooch and though common to Ireland (and/or celtic cultures) shows up in Scandanavian, Finnish, Viking and early Saxon artefacts. Lots of possibilities for this bust. While not a big fan of the whole facial gouging thing, I can see where it lends some character to the figure. There are some great possibilities for decorative painting of the cloak and tunic.
The scar just dosen't look natural to me. Too curvy and way too long. He would have lost half his face with that kind of a wound. Looks more like a crack in the casting.

I agree, especially across the mouth. It looks too well aligned over the lips unless he had been stitched up. But I do like the rest of the sculpting, particularly the wind blown hair.
The scar (if that's what it is) would be more believable if it just covered either the top or bottom half of the face. Though it's sculpted well and could be converted it's pretty stiff.~Gary
