Dear Planteers, this is where I hope this forum comes into it's own. I've had a nightmare. Can you drag me out?

Basically, I need to find out what the strongest adhesive is that I can reasonably lay my hands on here in England. I'm bonding steel to steel, have a very small surface area to work on and am operating at normal room temperatures. I would also prefer an adhesive that I can sculpt into the shape of a 54mm hand as well.

I know I'm not asking much..........

thanks in anticipation guys.

I have been quite impressed by the strength of B&Q's Poly Power Glue, although I am sure you will get plenty of other suggestions. I have also successfully used it when desperate, to make small castings.

Anthony...wassit for...?...is it actual steel..or white metal...?
Are you repairing or building..?..is there absolutely no chance of inserting a pin to add some strength and support..?

Roy.

Hi Anthony

Try “Chemical Metal”, its a 2 part epoxy that is dark grey, once dry it can be cut, sanded, filed you can even use a tap n die set on it. It bonds most metals and is available from car spares shops (not Halfords)....

Hope this helps

Dave

Dear fellas, as always many thanks for the replies. I'll certainly have a go at your suggestions.

Roy/Dave, mate the nightmare is as follows. Having decided to change the flag this figure is grasping, all went well. This was until it became obvious the glue I was using wasn't strong enough as the new one is much heavier. I then decided to drill & pin the hand going nto the sleeve. This went well until the 1mm drill bit snapped inside the geezer's arm. Imagine my delight. The air was blue...
I was then left with no choice but to amputate the arm 1/2 way up. I reckon I've found a solution though. I've experimented and have made a joint combining the steel rod (flagstaff) along with a section of thinner steel rod and standard Milliput.
Tests so far show a resonably strong joint.
I'll keep you posted. Hope the result will be worth it!
