I love this bust and your version of it is great, the face is superb.
What I'd like to say about the gambeson is that a real used one has the colours you've chosen in reverse.
That is the raised padded parts are usually stained dark grey from the contact with the chainmail worn over the top of it, whereas the deep creases in between remain the original off white.
I hope I've explained that ok, but here's a photo which shows it to some extent, it's most clearly seen on the sleeves but a well used one will be darkened all over.
It may seem counterintuitive to paint it that way but that's what a real battle worn one looks like......cheers.

Very valid point, but who of us would dare to paint it like that? It's like a brick wall. In reality the cement is mostly of a much lighter colour too, but we all paint this dark with a highlighting of the top edge of the bricks. The odd thing is that painting it as it should be, would look unrealistic, IMHO anyway .

One other point of interest is that the gambeson would in all reality have large rust coloured spodges on it if the user had had it for any length of time as the kind of steel used back then would rust literally over night. but that aside it's an excellent paint job oh and Johan regarding who would dare to paint one like modesty forbids but *cough*

Good point Mark, but I suppose it could be argued that if the soldier did not wear chainmail over the gambeson or aketon then the wear, dirt and grime may not pattern the material as you illustrate.
